3 out of 5 stars Helps me sleep, kinda stinks like plastic   November 14, 2009
Edward Lee (USA)
So far, better than a fan that makes the wife cold and cranky, better than a wet cooling blanket, better than waking up soaked in sweaty pj's. Smells like plastic. I'd buy another when this one gets moldy...

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   November 1, 2009
S. Sutherland (Columbus, Ohio USA)
I was sooo looking forward to receiving this device. I have hot flashes as night and hoped for a good night of "cool" sleep. The Chillow I received leaked! and instead of a "cool" nights sleep I got a "wet, cold" night of little sleep. But, I returned the Chillow and Amazon promptly refunded my money.

5 out of 5 stars Finally   October 17, 2009
Jonathan La'Fey (Burke, VA United States)
My body radiates head when I go to bed. Thank goodness for the Chillow. It always feels like it came right out of the refrigerator, with none of the pesky condensation of ice packs. I only need to lay on it for 30 minutes or so to cool down, so I can't say how it lasts if you use it overnight. However, since it stays cool on its own, it would be great to keep off to the side during the night for a quick cooldown if you wake up sweating.

3 out of 5 stars the good and bad   October 12, 2009
Jennifer (USA)
I was kind of dissapointed with this product... it definitly does not stay cool and in order to get it cool again you have to keep putting it in the refrigerator after it's been in there for an hour or two it stays cold for about 2 hours and cool for another 2 hours if that... never lasts through the night and is very stiff to sleep on... however it is nice to lay it on the couch when i have a headache or am just having a hot flash/fever from my lupus... but setting it up was a pretty big ordeal putting in 8-9 cups of water, letting it sit for 4 hours then trying to get all the air out which is nearly impossible! even getting the air bubble to the hole water still somehow spills out... yes, I will keep it but it is very misleading and I hope nobody has paid 40+ for this.... $19.99 at most! anyone who pays over that which was me (23.00) is a fool.

4 out of 5 stars Living With a Chillow   October 11, 2009
George Spelvin (Las Vegas, Nevada)
Roasting your head in bed? I've used the standard Chillow product consistently for the past several years, and I have found that I'm addicted to it. I should say them, because you need one to use and one to back-up when the initial one starts to leak. What happens? The plastic seams start to crack under normal use after 6 to 9 months or so, and then you have a leaky scenario with your underlying pillow. Is this a reason to avoid the product? Nope.

The leaks must be anticipated--it's part of ordinary use. Could they be made not to leak? Perhaps, but then the plastic might be too thick to be a conductor for the evaporative cooling effect. The Chillow works well enough to be worth it---get over it and plan accordingly. If you anticipate going through one or two a year, it's part of the cost of comfortable sleep.

I've tried other products, such as the little cloth bags with styrofoam-like pellets that suck up water. Forget it--you get a wet-head--not good. Most regular pillows trap heat because they're made out of that damned polyester fill--no doubt invented by the Marquis de Sade. A true goose feather pillow is pretty good, but hard to find, very expensive, and not quite as effective as a Chillow. The Chillow is still the best solution I've found.
