This functions fine as a sound machine, but its display is terrible. The backlight is really bright, and the numbers are impossible to read from any angle except straight ahead (meaning you can't position the clock a little above or below your head). When it operates on battery power alone, you can't see the time at all. It's also really tricky to turn off an alarm function if you accidentally turn one on.

For the price, it is a nice little noise maker for the kids and helps them sleep through the noise I make in the mornings getting ready for work. The 10 second loop sounds are much too annoying for an adult but seem to work fine for our kids. The clock read-out has about a 30 degree blind spot which means that you can't read the clock at all from straight on; a major design flaw. Instead, you have to make sure you're looking at the clock from a fairly sharp angle. I've found that we can elevate the rear of the clock by about three inches and that makes the time reasonably readable as well as provides some directionality for the sound. As mentioned on some other reviews, the bright display also doubles as a night light. But overall, a nicely priced sound machine with a good selection of sounds that does an acceptable job of providing background noise for the kids.

Product is okay for the price but on this site and others people reviewed that the unit was nice because it would run all night. I bought this specifically because I wanted continuous sound. 'Lo and behold, it arrives and the longest you can set it for is 90 minutes! I am a bit disappointed because of that fact.

I ordered the "infant sound machine" for myself, since so many reviewers noted that it's superior to the adult-oriented equivalent. It is nice having the clock and radio, as well as the sound machine, but I have to agree with others that the backlight on the clock is way too bright. It would work if you're looking for a nightlight, but I have to turn it to face the wall and it's still a bit too bright. The sound quality for the "sound therapy" functions isn't exactly stereo, but it does the trick. I was hoping to use the "white noise" feature, but it just sounds like annoying static. Instead, I often use the "rainfall" feature, as it's white noise of sorts and also very calming (like being cozy inside on a rainy day). And it's helped my sleep quality considerably. I no longer hear my noisy neighbor or my meowing (from 3am-7am---and no, she's not sick) cat. So I'm happy.
