Product Description
Emersons patented SmartSet® Automatic Time Setting System. The first time you connect this clock radio to your AC outlet it will immediately set itself to the correct year, month, date, day and time in the Eastern Time Zone. If you live in a different time zone there is one simple Time Zone adjustment to make and you will never see the dreaded flashing 12:00 display again. It will automatically reset itself every time you have a power interruption, and not just the time but your wake-up times as well. Daylight Saving Time and Leap Year adjustments are also done automatically through the year 2099.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   November 5, 2009

This radio was shipped in a timely manner and I was very pleased with it when it arrived. After about a month and a half some of the idicator lights started to blink for no reason. Shortly thereafter, all the indicator lights went on and I cannot shut them off. I cannot turn the radio on without constantly pressing all the buttons and then, when I succeed in turning the radio on, I cannot shut it off without pulling the plug, and sometimes it still plays when reconnected. I understand that the return period has expired but it is not worthwile to pay for returning the item for a partial refund at this stage. It is a shame that Emerson could not produce a radio that works for more than two months. In my youth they produced the most reliable products. I will continue to shop at Amazon and would even purchase another Emerson product, but this particular radio is a dud. P.S. It does keep excellent time!

5 out of 5 stars Works as promised   November 5, 2009

This clock is super-easy to set up. Plug it in and it sets itself, like it claims. It has a nice big display and you can see what time the alarm is set for right on the display. I like the two alarm system, and it can even be set up to only wake you on weekdays, so no more forgetting the alarm and being woken early on Saturday. Also the alarm noise is a beep that isn't ear-piercingly shrill or an annoying buzzer. Great purchase, glad I got it.

3 out of 5 stars Not so SmartSet for me   November 4, 2009

The reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because when I plugged in my alarm clock the
time was wrong with the wrong date, It showed 12 noon & the year was 2006. The main
reason for me to get this clock was that I just had to plug it in set the region &
forget about it. I also waited to see to send my review after the time chage to see
if it would automatically fall back an hour & it did. Other than that it work good
it's easy to set & the motion sensor works great.

5 out of 5 stars Best Digital Clock ever!!!   October 30, 2009

It sets the time itself.

If the power goes, it resets the time and the alarms too. ANd you can see the time both alarms are set - can set them for weekdays, weekends or both!

You can completely turn off the clock digits if the light bothers you, but you just pass your hand by it and the time will turn on.

It also has a button to press to see the date.

And it resets itself for daylight savings time.

I have 3 myself and have bought them for gifts too.

5 out of 5 stars Very Pleased   October 27, 2009

I've had this clock for about 3 months and it's been working out great. You only have to turn the alarm on once if you keep a regular schedule, since you can set each of the two alarms to go off on either weekdays or weekends (or both). Hitting the snooze is super easy (just wave your arm in front of it), which is actually more of a negative for some people. I saw one reviewer say that it isn't loud enough to wake them up... when it first starts beeping it's very quiet, and gradually ramps up until it's pretty darn loud. I wear earplugs at night and it's never failed to wake me up. The fact that it ramps up gradually also prevents it from startling me awake every morning like all of my previous alarm clocks have. I also have not had any problems with it keeping poor time. It's at least within a minute of accuracy from when I set it 3 months ago. Actually, I didn't set it, it set itself. A display model I saw at Sears did a very poor job of setting itself to the proper time when the power was cut, which made me wary of purchasing it, but the unit I got set itself correctly.

It also has feature that sounds really useful - it can turn off the display unless you wave your hand in front of it (good because the display is actually pretty bright). Unfortunately, what's happened in my experience is that anytime I move around in my bed it turns the display on - right in my face and on the brightest setting - which basically makes me paranoid about making any movements and thus is obviously not helpful for sleeping. I gave up on using this feature pretty quickly. It would have been much better if it at least pointed up at a 30 degree angle or something.

Overall good quality. The display is plenty big, but I wouldn't call it "Jumbo." I've had bigger. It's easy to set the time and it seems like it will probably last for quite a while, especially since I rarely even have to hit any of the buttons, so they shouldn't be wearing out anytime soon. I've had trouble with fidgety alarm on/off switches on my previous alarm clocks.
