1 out of 5 stars Unreliable product   November 18, 2009

This rice cooker stopped working after two weeks' normal use. I am very disappointed. The controls stopped working and don't respond to press any more. Too bad I discarded the packaging too early and I have to claim warranty now.
When it worked, it did produce good rice. The pots look sturdy and cook speed is fast. It offers lots of other features but it broke even before we had chance to try those features out.
We eat rice often and we used to use an Aroma rice cooker bought from Costco. It's nothing fancy no funky fuzzy logic control inside but it worked and still works.
I think this rice cooker certainly doesn't meet the high quality standard Japanese appliances usually carry.
If you buy it, do yourself a favor keep the packaging.

5 out of 5 stars fantastic rice cooker   October 11, 2009

I got this this rice cooker a month ago. It's been working very well. I like its not sticky at all and all the functionalities. However, the clock may slow down once in a while. Overall, it's really worth the money!

My Tiger computerized rice cooker has worked for more than 5 years and it still works very well, but it looks old. So I thought it was time to get a new rice cooker. I did a lot of research and finally decided to get the Sanyo 10-cup micro-computerized rice cooker and slow cooker because it has so many interesting features and I have a big family now. After I used it a couple of times I realized it was not as good as I had been expecting.

Many people have described the positive aspects, which I agree with, but there are also several negative points, which I have experienced, and share with you here:
1.The lid is not sealed very well. I can see some light go through a small gap from the side.
2.When I push the lid opening button, it opens so quickly and forcefully that the empty cooker shakes and tilts.
3.When first using the cooker there was a strong plastic smell (someone has already mentioned that)
4.Rice will go bad easily if left inside the cooker a little bit longer. My Tiger can keep rice fresh for a very long time even in the summer.

Honestly for a rice cooker it does it's job. Thinking of price, the Sanyo has been much lower than a Zojirushi but recently the price of the Sanyo is getting higher so the gap is much less.

This is the first time I have returned a product. If the Sanyo 5½ cup cooker price drops down to reasonable range I would consider buying it because I need a slow cooker too. Or I would buy a Zojirushi rice cooker which my friend has and says works better than my old Tiger.

4 out of 5 stars cooks well, but aluminum lids, plastic smell,   October 4, 2009

cooks very well, rice or slow cooking,
but if i am to choose again, i might choose a better product that does not use aluminum inner lids.
also the plastic smell is very strong at the first few times you use it.

5 out of 5 stars love this   September 30, 2009

this rice cooker is great! it cooks the rice perfectly, you've still got to soak your brown rice first but it does a much better job than my old simple, one button tiger did. i love the recipes with the broth and butter and onion and carrot, all right in your cooker, its like a meal in a pot. I haven't yet used it to make porridge or tofu. But as a rice cooker it is an excellent choice, I'm also happier to have something other than aluminum come into contact with my food (like most of the other cookers). You'll be amazed at how heavy duty the inner liner is, and how easily it cleans out. We are really happy with our purchase.
