3 out of 5 stars Pathetic Packing Job   November 6, 2009
Joseph ODonnell (Mechanicsburg PA)
I ordered three of these because of the reviews. However, upon receipt of these night lights we were shocked by the way Amazon had packed them. All three were cramened into this small box with zero protection. No bubble wrap. The prongs were actually punching through the box. Why would anyone ever pack electrical devices so negligently, especially Amazon? After plugging them into our outlets none of them worked as advertised. Two of them stay on all of the time. Now we get to go through the hassel of packing them up and mailing them back. Thanks Amazon for your negligence!

5 out of 5 stars Wow - awesome!   November 5, 2009

Absolutely awesome light - great motion sensing - especially from the front (12-15 feet); doesn't turn on unless very low light.
Bought 3 -- 2 with regular bulb (for softer light)in bedroom and master bath and 1 in kitchen that I put in a Crane LED bulb which is bright white. Love these so much am looking for places to put more!

5 out of 5 stars Great Night Light   October 26, 2009
B. Schlichting (Wisconsin)
I recently purchased two of these lights, one for the bathroom and one for the nursery, and they work great. The sensor detects your movement as soon as you walk into a room and puts out a soft, natural light. Having a newborn, these lights are great in that you can check on or feed the baby without turning on any other lights.

4 out of 5 stars Good brightness but I found that I had to get about 3 feet away from it   October 26, 2009

Good brightness but I had to get about 3 feet from it before it turned on. And if I was walking faster I was almost right on it before it came on. The light was mounted in a hallway.

5 out of 5 stars Versatile, reliable, bright ... or dim, or red, or green, you choose   October 24, 2009
W. M. McLaughlin (Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, USA.)
We have had several of these lights in our home. The problem is, guests keep loving them, and we keep giving them away ... And, the two nearest megamarts don't carry them any more.

These require common household 110-120 VAC, and will only work if your building's power is on. The light uses standard 4 watt "Christmas" lamps. It comes with a clear white lamp. The one in my bathroom has had a clear, red, lamp installed in it, by me. Not exactly rocket science. Preserves night vision.

N.B.: The four new ones I just received have LEDs permanently mounted in them - no more replacing them with red or whatever. Might try dying the clear cover. They do seem brighter than the old 4 watt holiday lamps, and draw <0.5W, so they are more energy efficient than the incandescent ones.

They go out after about 1.5 min. If you are seated and motionless, wave at it, it will come back on.

I use several more of the same, all white, primarily along a hall or near a stairway, where I want to have light in the night without carrying a flashlight or flipping wall switches. The dog does set them off, but who cares.

If you want a power-failure lamp, this is NOT what you want. There are a number of 110 VAC self-charging, battery operated power failure lights available.

I've been looking for a combination motion + power failure night light, and just found one: The "Sentina LED-92M Smart Rechargeable LED Light for Emergency or Everyday" NOTE: I do NOT have one, HAVE NOT tried it. More expensive than this GE 50723, of course. Has more features, and has gotten good reviews. Check it out, too!
