4 out of 5 stars Almsot Perfect Product   March 9, 2010
Susan (Huntsville,AL)
I installed one of these last October to control seven 50W incandescent downlights across the front of my house and I love it - great "welcoming" and "somebody's home" effect automatically. Works like a charm, no problems. I suggest that it be programmed BEFORE being installed in the wall because the LED isn't backlit and the buttons are a bit small for my fat fingers. Once programmed, it's worked great.

We love the automatic adjustment for "on at sunset" (we only have them come on at night, programming different off-times for different days) and we set the clock 15 minutes early to have them come on before actual sunset due to the heavy shading on the west side of our house.

Now that they are starting to burn out, I'm going to replace the 50W incandescents with 14W CFL (2,700 Kelvin) bulbs (in all except one to keep them from flickering) as suggested above.

3 out of 5 stars Overly complicated.   February 24, 2010

This wall switch is easy to install, but it is really complicated to program. The instructions are not user friendly and some steps are confusing. The program window icons are very small, and you will need a flash light or really good lighting to see the set up menu. So far it has worked as advertised, but there are better products out there for the same price.

3 out of 5 stars Worked great for two years......   February 7, 2010

Purchased this to control outside lights. It was terrific and ran without any problems. However, after a couple of years, all the lights starting flickering. These were all CFLs, so maybe that was part of the problem, but it worked fine until the failure. I'm giving Intermatic another chance by reording a newer model.

5 out of 5 stars Great timer !   December 25, 2009

I bought (and installed) this timer for a neighbor and I did it with confidence given that I have two of my own. It's a great design with compact form factor and very flexible.

The following are some things to consider:

- the programming can be a little complex for the faint of heart but if you just follow the directions you can do it. And once it's done once you should never have to touch it

- the letters on the display are tiny so get out your headlamp and glasses - but except for programming it you really never have to look at the display

I love this product and the Amazon price can't be beat and even the shipping is not too bad.

1 out of 5 stars a waste of money !   December 15, 2009

I once again made the mistake of buying an Intermatic programmable timer for my front porch lights, and it was the simpler rotary dial kind, but, I also have purchased the full digital version in the past for the same location. My take is that Intermatic cannot make a timer that (1) is easy to program, or (2) that can last. This last rotary dial programmable model lasted only 30 days; the digital device shown here lasted about a year, that's it.

Do you feel like spending $30+ a year for a new timer ? If you do then Intermatic is your product. What I can't figure out is how can Intermatic in 2009 manufacture such a worthless device ? There is a real quality control problem going on with Intermatic. I'll never buy any products from Intermatic again.
