This is a lightweight plastic lamp guard meant to prevent breakage of lamps if inadvertently bumped, as in a workshop. We purchased a large number of these guards to house indoor R40 compact fluorescent floodlights in a shop. Unfortunately we had to return them, because the floodlights were exactly the same measurement as the inside diameter of the guards, 5 inches, so the cage didn't close and the bulbs touched the insides of the cage. We checked with the vendor as well as with Leviton, and couldn't find guards for R40 CFLs without paying a premium price for large-circumference guards. Possibly non-CFL R40 floods are smaller and would fit these guards, and certainly regular lamp bulbs would. Check the measurements of your lamp bulbs. (By the way, the vendor Acehardwareoutlet, and Leviton were both very helpful in trying to find a solution for us.)
