I bought this light for our very dark backyard that backs up to an alley. I read all of the reviews on this site and others and many suggested changing the battery before use. I bought a new battery at The Home Depot and replaced it. The installation of this light onto the house was very easy and after four days of collecting sunlight we turned it on and it now works like a champ. It is an LED light and is surprisingly bright. I have no problems with the motion sensor as after it is dark it will promptly turn on if you walk in the vicinity of it. I would recommend this light to anyone.

A user friendly solar floodlight that (hopefully) works ! November 8, 2009

This proved to be simple enough to install that I spent more time looking at the outside of our house deciding where to position the panel and the lamp than I did actually installing it.

Having finally clambered onto the roof, the solar panel required 4 screws to hold it in place and seems fairly secure.

Next up was the light itself, which consisted of the LED lights and a motion detector. That has 2 screws to hold it in place. The LED panel will only move up or down, the motion detector moves up or down and in a horizontal plane, which allows for plenty of adjustment. On the base of the motion detector are three 'switches' which control the amount of time that the light will remain on, the light level at which the light will turn on (to avoid it turning on in daylight) and the sensitivity of the motion detector. There's also an auto/off switch on the battery casing. The build quality seems reasonable; the solar panel and the light unit are both plastic, and at first sight the light seems a little on the flimsy side BUT once the light was fixed in place and various fittings tightened it all seems solid enough.

All told I would guess that it took about 10 minutes to install - and required a drill and a screwdriver. I will, once I am sure that it is in the right place, add something to hold the excess wire in place.

So far I am really pleased with the unit; it provides a light similar to a bright moon light which is plenty for our front steps.

I would definitely buy another of these if I had a need for a second security light. What I would really like is something similar that I could turn on as required, whether it be for 10 minutes or 2 hours.

Now the test - will it last ? I certainly hope so.

Very disappointing that this unit stopped working after just 5 months. I am going to try and contact the manufacture to see if they will replace but it is still irritating after such a short time to have to deal with this.

Great solar powered light! October 22, 2009

I love this solar light. The color is a white bluish color and it is very bright. I like these color bulbs because it makes everything seem like their normal color in the daylight. It does not attract any bugs which is an added bonus. I set this up by our back gate as both a security light and because it is very dark there. As soon as your go by the sensor it turns right on. Our cars are parked right by our back gate and we tried sneaking up by it very slowly to see if it turns on. Guess what... it does! I say about 90% percent it turns on if you go very very slow. You can even move the sensor where you want it so thats not a problem. I used it right out of the box and I didn't even let it charge a day or two. It keeps a charge for a couple of days without sunlight as long as you only go by it a couple times a night. I also like how they have a timer for how long you want the light on. I think that is pretty much standard nowadays through.

However there is only one thing that I do not like about it and it is how its made. You can tell that the plastic where you aim the LEDs is kinda cheap. I don't think that it really matters unless your move it all the time. If you do then I suggest doing it cautiously because it seems a little flimsy. That does not make it a deal breaker but its just something to consider if you need something with the ability to constantly move the LEDs.

All said and done I would happily buy this solar light again again if I needed to. They are great because they really light up the area where you need it to. All you need to remember and to go up every so often to clean the solar panel because they do get dirty pretty dirty which limits the amount it gets from the sun.

Plenty of Light, If You Have Plenty of Sunlight October 13, 2009

I bought this light, and set it out in the sun for about 5 days to charge up before installing it and turning it on. It seemed to work just fine for a few nights, then it quit working altogether. At first I thought something was wrong with it. Then I turned off the switch and waited a few days before turning it back on. Sure enough, it worked again. The placement of my light gets between 5-9 hours of sunlight a day, and it's just not enough. If we get a cloudy day, the light doesn't work at all that night. This is a good light if you get 10+ hours of direct sunlight and you live in California where it rarely ever rains. But if you don't meet those conditions, consider getting a powered light, not a solar one like this.
