Product Description
The classic American bungalow is as popular today as when introduced in the Victorian era. Bungalow Style pictures a wide variety of interior details and describes how to add or restore elements that suggest a historic flair while keeping the home comfortable and functional. Common problems such as integrating modern conveniences or gaining needed space are also addressed.

3 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, but...   October 3, 2009

Kind of repetitive after awhile. Really restricted to the California type of Craftsman Bungalow, but doesn't include examples of other types of bungalow, such as the Southern interpretation (less exposed wood) and etc.

4 out of 5 stars Wow!   September 14, 2009

This book is wonderfully Dangerous. Meaning: My wife and I just bought a new house (new to us, but built in 1920) and my local Home depot is going to be thrilled that I got this book, and want to thank the author. This book has given me enough ideas to almost single handedly keep the economy going. Oh, Curse you Good BooK!

5 out of 5 stars Informative and Balanced   August 3, 2009

As a devotee of the Arts and Crafts movement, I found this book to be a great balance between restoration and renovation. Often a book focuses on unrealistic goals of a total period restoration or a lip service to the essential elements of a style renovation. This book helps you identify the crucial must have elements with creative ideas on how to update a home to better meet the needs of the modern family. Stunning photography combined with thoughtful commentary make this a must have reference book for anyone who owns or would like to own a bungalow.

4 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Info and Ideas   July 11, 2009

One of the things I like best about this book is that it compares/contrasts the differences in Arts & Crafts movement architecture styles. You'll learn the differences between "Craftsman," "Prairie," and "Mission" style design, which are all off-shoots or sub-categories of A&C style. It includes both written and visual descriptions of the hallmarks of each of the three design styles.

If you're looking for a guide on how to most appropriately decorate your A&C home, you'll want to take a look at this one. There's detailed info and photos on every part of the home (in all the different A&C styles, as mentioned above): windows, entryways, porches, knobs & pulls, wall treatments - everything from fixtures to floorplans!

Bungalow Style is a great resource for those wanting to design their own A&C home, fill it with style-appropriate furniture, or just learn a little more about a beautiful era in American design history. (Makes a great coffee table book, too!)
