For those who cook large quantities of food, FoodSaver vacuum packaging systems offer excellent protection against food spoilage and freezer burn. This jar sealer attachment fits on wide-mouth mason jars and is for use with any FoodSaver machine that has an accessory port. The top forms a tight seal on mason jars while the tubing removes air from the jar with the help of a FoodSaver machine. The jar sealer works equally as well in packaging liquid foods, such as jams or chocolate sauces, as it does for dry goods, such as brown sugar or spices. While vacuum packaging is not a substitute for traditional canning methods, it does keep food fresh three to five times longer than keeping it in a plastic food storage container in the refrigerator. --Cristina Vaamonde

I love this attachment. I've purchased a bunch of canning jars to use with the sealer and for several months now I've used these instead of bags for almost everything but meat. The jars are cheep ~$10 for 12 and can be reused. The combination of jars and the sealer have already paid for themselves. The only things I really still use bags for are steaks etc.

One of my favorite uses for the jars is vanilla beans. A few organic beans at your local grocery is likely to run $10. You can pick up a pound of quality beans off ebay for twice that and keep them fresh.

I got this even though I don't have a foodsaver, hoping I could figure out a way to make it work since the vacuum port on the jar sealer is just a hole. I was about to buy an accessory hose from the manufacturer's website when I thought to try the little Ziploc hand pump vacuum that comes as a kit with 4 vacuum bags (in my Walmart for about four bucks). Just follow the directions to put the jar sealer on the jar, place the Ziploc pump over the hole and hold it down tight so the rubber bit compresses a bit and forms a tight seal. Then just pump 10-20 times. I get a great seal every time.

The Tilla jar sealer works great every time. I have seen other reviews for this and others did not like saying that it loses vaccum. it works like a charm and holds vaccum for a very long time.

I purchased this and also the one for narrow mouth jars to use with my FoodSaver. I LOVE these things! It is so nice to be able to easily store such things as brown rice, chocolate chips, raisins... etc. very economically and you can use your lids over and over. Great product.
